A Wonderful Surprise for a Galway Student

What a delightful day for education and inspiration in County Galway! On Wednesday 25 March 2015, the talented Olympic Boxing Champion and Sky Academy Ambassador, Katie Taylor, made a special surprise visit to Ardscoil Mhuire in Ballinasloe. The occasion was to present the prestigious Sky Sports Living for Sport Student of the Year award for the Republic of Ireland to a remarkable 14-year-old pupil named Stephanie O'Halloran.

The moment was truly magical as Stephanie was taking part in a school quiz. When a fellow student correctly answered a question with the name 'Katie Taylor', the boxing star herself entered the room to present the award live on Sky Sports News HQ. It is wonderful to see young people being celebrated for their achievements and enthusiasm for sport.

Exciting Opportunities Ahead

Following this fantastic recognition, Stephanie will now travel to the Sky Studios in London this weekend. There, she will join the winners from England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to discover if she will be crowned the overall UK & Ireland Student of the Year. The Awards ceremony will be broadcast on Sky Sports 1 on Sunday 29 March 2015 at 7.30pm, allowing everyone to tune in and cheer for the participants.

These Awards are designed to celebrate the outstanding achievements of students and teachers who use the skills learned through sport to build essential life skills in young people. This initiative is part of Sky Academy, a fantastic set of programmes using the power of television, creativity, and sport to help one million young people across the UK and Ireland unlock their potential and gain practical experience.

Katie Taylor expressed her delight, noting that all three Irish students shortlisted for the award are inspirational. She was thrilled to be in Galway to present the award and wished Stephanie an amazing time at the upcoming event in London. It is a fantastic example of how sport can bring communities together and inspire the next generation.
