According to the latest figures released today, the popularity of flexible viewing is soaring to new heights, offering everyone more choice and convenience than before.
The statistics released as part of the third-quarter results show a truly remarkable increase in engagement. In the first three months of the year, the average number of weekly downloads reached an impressive 4.5 million. This represents a fantastic 460% increase compared to the same period last year, highlighting just how much people are enjoying the freedom to watch what they want, when they want.
Connectivity is also growing rapidly. During the first quarter of 2013, an average of 45,000 customers connected their Sky box to broadband each week. In total, more than 2.3 million Sky customers have now linked their boxes to the internet, a significant rise from 600,000 just a year ago. This growing network allows everyone to access the UK's biggest catch-up TV service.
By connecting to home broadband, customers can enjoy content from all terrestrial networks, alongside Sky's own channels like Sky 1 and Sky Atlantic. The library is extensive, featuring great shows from Nat Geo, History, and Crime & Investigation Network. There are also exclusive TV box sets, more than 700 subscription movies from Sky Movies, and over 1,000 movies available to rent through Sky Store.
Viewing options are more flexible than ever. Whether downloading content to a connected Sky+HD set-top box, using the on-demand storage on the Showcase service, or enjoying the multiplatform TV service via Sky Go, there is something for everyone. Sky Movies recently celebrated a record-breaking 200 million on-demand views over the last 12 months, with a new weekly record of 5.8 million downloads driven by the launch of Sky Movies D.
