Exciting New Football Coverage Announced for Fans

There is wonderful news for football supporters across the UK as Sky Sports has confirmed a fantastic expansion of its broadcast schedule. In a celebration of the beautiful game, the broadcaster has announced 14 additional matches from the EFL to be shown until the end of September. This announcement marks the beginning of what promises to be the biggest ever season of football coverage, offering fans more opportunities than ever to enjoy live action from their favourite teams.

Unmissable Matches and Historic Clashes

The newly confirmed fixtures include some truly special occasions. Viewers can look forward to the first-ever Championship meeting between former European Cup winners, as Aston Villa hosts Nottingham Forest. This match also features a clash of managerial giants, with Roberto Di Matteo and Rafa Benitez, both of whom have led teams to UEFA Champions League glory, facing off on the touchline.

There is plenty of local rivalry action to enjoy as well. The schedule includes the debut of SkyBet Championship newcomers Burton Albion against their local rivals, Derby County. Additionally, the classic East Anglian derby returns with Ipswich Town taking on Norwich City, promising an electric atmosphere for all watching.

A Season of Record-Breaking Coverage

This latest instalment is part of an excellent 2016-17 season that will see Sky Sports broadcast a total of 127 matches from the Sky Bet EFL. When combined with 126 live matches from the Premier League, fans will have access to an incredible amount of top-tier football. In total, over 700 matches from eight different leagues will be available across Sky Sports channels and digital outlets.

For the first time, supporters can enjoy regular live coverage of Premier League matches on Friday nights, adding to the existing Saturday and Sunday afternoon slots and Monday Night Football. Furthermore, viewers in the Republic of Ireland will now be able to catch live Premier League action in a regular Saturday afternoon slot at 3pm, ensuring the excitement reaches even more fans.
