Exciting New Season of Football Ahead

Football fans across the UK have wonderful news to celebrate as Sky Sports prepares to launch its biggest ever season of live football coverage! The excitement begins in earnest with a fantastic trio of matches scheduled over three days, featuring some of the division's most beloved clubs. Get ready for an action-packed start with Fulham taking on Newcastle United on Friday 5 August, followed by thrilling clashes between QPR and Leeds United, and Sheffield Wednesday versus Aston Villa on Sunday 7 August.

This announcement marks just the beginning of another unmissable season of sport. More fixtures for the period leading up to 24 September will be confirmed throughout July, ensuring there is always something new to look forward to. Gary Hughes, Head of Football at Sky Sports, expressed his enthusiasm, noting that the EFL has never been stronger and that the upcoming 2016-2017 season promises more football than ever before to enjoy.

More Ways to Enjoy the Action

This season brings a host of exciting new features for viewers. Sky Sports will broadcast more than 700 matches from eight different leagues across its channels and digital outlets. For the first time, fans can enjoy regular live coverage of Premier League matches on Friday nights, adding to the existing Saturday and Sunday afternoon slots and Monday Night Football. Additionally, viewers in the Republic of Ireland will be delighted to see live Premier League coverage in a regular Saturday afternoon slot at 3pm.

Technology is also stepping up to bring the game closer to home. An expanded mobile clips service via the Sky Sports Football Score Centre app will allow users to enjoy more highlights of Premier League and Football League matches directly on their phones on match days. To kick off the excitement, Sky Sports will be live streaming the draw for the first round of the EFL Cup today at 1pm on Facebook, YouTube, and across their platforms.
