Celebrating a Decade of Sporting Success

There is wonderful news for everyone passionate about youth development and physical activity. The Sky Sports Living for Sport team has enjoyed a fantastic few weeks, marking a significant milestone in their journey. Recently, the team was shortlisted for the prestigious Beyond Sport Awards, a fantastic recognition of their hard work and dedication. Even more excitingly, they have celebrated ten years of grass-roots sporting success, proving that their mission to inspire young people is stronger than ever.

Reaching New Heights in Schools

The programme has achieved a remarkable target for this academic year, successfully engaging with 1,500 UK secondary schools. This impressive figure represents one-third of all secondary schools across the United Kingdom, showing just how widespread the positive impact has become. The momentum continues to build following the successful launch of the initiative in Ireland this past May. With the help of inspirational Olympic Gold medallist Katie Taylor, the programme is now opening its doors to even more children, reaching hundreds of Irish schools and spreading the joy of sport across the island.

Founded in 2003 in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust, this initiative works with a wonderful range of mentors to engage schoolchildren. Beyond simply improving fitness, the programme provides young people with focus and the opportunity to learn essential life skills. Students are encouraged to develop teamwork, discipline, and project management abilities, setting them up for a bright future. This year alone, participating schools have benefited from more than 3,000 athlete mentor visits, featuring renowned figures such as Sky ambassador David Beckham, Jessica Ennis, and Darren Campbell.

Building Aspirations Together

Through these engaging projects, more than 30,000 young people have been encouraged to take part in activities that build life skills and raise aspirations. It is a privilege to see so many inspiring individuals come together to support the next generation. The community is still buzzing with pride after Bedford Academy student Wayne Instrell was named Student of the Year at the awards in March, a testament to the transformative power of the programme.
