Young Stars Shine at Sky Studios

What a wonderful celebration of talent and ambition! Fifteen enthusiastic secondary school students from three Hounslow schools recently enjoyed a truly unforgettable evening at Sky Studios in Isleworth. These lucky youngsters, representing Gumley House Convent School, Lampton School, and The Heathland School, were the proud winners of a special visit as part of the inspiring Sky Sports Living for Sport initiative.

Last Wednesday, the group was invited to experience the magic behind the scenes of the UEFA Champions League coverage. The evening began with a warm welcome from the production team, including producer Gary Hughes and video content senior manager Tom Middleditch. The students were treated to a fascinating tour of the studios and even enjoyed a delicious dinner in the staff canteen, making them feel right at home in this world-class environment.

Meeting the Experts

The excitement reached new heights when the group went behind the scenes of the UEFA Champions League studio. They had the fantastic opportunity to meet presenter Jeff Stelling and legendary match experts Gary Neville, Jamie Redknapp, and John Collins. The students were briefed on the incredible work involved in producing eight live football matches simultaneously, gaining a unique insight into the broadcast industry.

Producer Gary Hughes shared his delight, noting how fantastic it was to show the students elements of the studio and gallery they would never have seen before. The initiative, delivered in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust, is a free programme designed to boost confidence, change behaviours, and improve life skills through the power of sport. It is wonderful to see how such opportunities can open doors to future career paths in broadcasting and beyond.

Cath Desson, Sky's Community Investment Manager, expressed how impressed the team was with the thoughtful questions the students asked. This event perfectly highlights the positive impact of engaging with sport and media, offering a glimpse into the exciting possibilities that await young people who participate in such enriching projects.
