There is wonderful news for young people across Ireland as Sky Sports Living for Sport Ambassador Katie Taylor has announced a fantastic expansion of her mentorship team for 2015. This exciting update brings a host of new athlete mentors on board, creating a vibrant network of role models ready to share their experiences and inspire the next generation.
The latest additions to the programme mean that Katie Taylor is now supported by a total of 20 Athlete Mentors across Ireland. These dedicated sports stars come from a diverse range of disciplines, including athletics, boxing, rugby, basketball, sailing, and, for the very first time, the GAA. By drawing on the valuable lessons they have learned through their own sporting journeys, these mentors are perfectly positioned to help young people develop essential life skills and achieve their full potential.
The new cohort of mentors includes some truly inspiring names. The team now features boxing star Darren O'Neill, alongside athletics talents Jessie Barr and Thomas Barr. Rugby's Shaun Berne and basketball's Aoife McDermott have also joined the ranks. Sailing champion Annalise Murphy brings her expertise to the group, while the historic inclusion of GAA stars marks a significant milestone. The new GAA mentors include hurling players Joey Boland, Lorcan McLoughlin, and Stephen McDonnell, as well as Gaelic footballers Christy Toye, Karl Lacey, and Darran O'Sullivan.
Sky Sports Living for Sport is a key part of Sky Academy, a ground-breaking initiative designed to use the power of television, sport, and creativity to help up to one million young people build skills and experience by 2020 across the UK and Ireland. Launched in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust in 2013, this free initiative has already seen over 100 secondary schools in Ireland participate. It remains open to all secondary schools across the UK and Ireland, offering a unique opportunity to build confidence and develop life skills through the guidance of sports stars.
