What a wonderful day for students at St. Kevin's College in Crumlin, Dublin! On Tuesday, 13 January 2015, the school hosted a truly special visit from Dublin GAA star Bernard Brogan. This exciting event was part of the Sky Sports Living for Sport initiative, a fantastic programme designed to use the power of sport and creativity to help young people build confidence and develop essential life skills.
The students earned this exclusive opportunity by entering a competition exclusively for Irish schools last October. Their hard work and enthusiasm paid off, allowing them to meet and be trained by the two-time All-Ireland winner. During the session, students had the privilege of learning first-hand the incredible skills that have made Brogan one of the GAA's finest forwards. Beyond the physical techniques, they listened to his inspiring words on how the attitudes and lessons learned through sport can positively shape their futures.
Sky Sports Living for Sport is a ground-breaking initiative under the Sky Academy umbrella. It aims to help up to one million young people build skills and experience by 2020 across the UK and Ireland. Delivered in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust, the programme launched in Ireland last year with Ambassador Katie Taylor and has already seen over 100 secondary schools participate. The best part? It is a completely free initiative open to all secondary schools across the UK and Ireland, using sports stars to inspire young people to achieve their full potential.
Thousands of Irish students have already experienced the positive impact of these visits. Previous Sky Sports Living for Sport Athlete Mentors have included former Munster and Ireland star Alan Quinlan, modern-pentathlete Natalya Coyle, double-gold winning Paralympian Michael McKillop, and Grand-slam winning rugby star Alison Miller. Each visit brings a unique energy and valuable lessons that stay with the students long after the event.
